The Origin of Ayurveda Dates Back from 3000-5000 BC .Ayu Means “Life” and Veda Means “Science” – Ayurveda - The Science of Life.

In the Ayurveda healing system there are three different body types. Or “Doshas.” They are the Vata, Pitta and Kapha Doshas.

Vata Dosha (Body Type).

Vata types are thin framed people who move quickly and are full of frenetic energy.

The primary qualities of Vata body type are dry, light, cool, rough, subtle, and mobile. Which means warm oils are especially good for pacifying or calming Vata.

Let’s start with the base oils for massaging.

Because Vata types feel the cold more than other body types, Sesame Oil is the preferred choice of oil. It is naturally warming.

Another good choice for Vata body type is Almond oil because it is warming.

Pitta Dosha.

This body type is muscular and lean.

The main attributes of pitta are, oily, sharp, hot, light, fleshy-smelling.

Because Pitta and base oils share a number of qualities it’s best to use herbal oil when you are aiming to balance Pitta.

Other than herbal oils Sunflower Oil or Coconut Oils are great for the Pitta body type.

Kapha Dosha.

Big frames, slow learners, and lots of stamina once they get going. Usually dark hair.

The main qualities of Kapha body type are oily, cool, heavy, slow, smooth, soft, and static. Sesame Oil, almond oil, olive oil and corn oil are all warming.

Overview of essential oils for each body type.

For the primary Vata dosha, warm, sweet, and sour aromas are best for balancing this body type. For example… Basil, Orange, Rose, Geranium, Clove, Patchouli, Vanilla.
